Event Photography on the Eastern Shore: What to Expect Before, During, and After
A friendly, practical guide to planning event photography for local charity events, fundraisers, school functions, and private parties — from the shot list and timeline to capturing candid moments and receiving polished photos afterward.
Getting Ready: Planning and Booking
Start by defining the purpose of your coverage: formal portraits, candid guest interactions, key speeches, or a mix. Create a short shot list with must-have moments (award presentations, honorees, cake cutting, VIP group photos) and share the event timeline with your photographer in advance. Blue Room Photography accepts online bookings and appreciates any site details you can provide — venue access, parking, setup time, and a point of contact. If your schedule changed or you need last-minute flexibility, mention it up front; reviewers note that quick communication and accommodation on short timelines are strengths you can count on.
On the Day: How Coverage Typically Works
I balance posed shots with candid storytelling. I arrive early to wset up and do a quick walk-through with the organizer to confirm high-priority shots. During the event I capture natural interactions and at times will step in to get group photos or staged moments as requested. I do m best to not interrupt conversations, and am also readily available to be pulled away to grab a photo upon request.
After the Event: Editing, Delivery, and Keepsakes
After your event, I back up the raw photos to the cloud, and edit the best ones so everyone looks their best. I include detail photos: flowers, table settings, entry signage, sponsor signage, food, and other pertinent details that set the scene. Editing is done chronologically - unless a group has paid for a rush turn-around. The gallery you receive will have polished images suitable for sharing with sponsors and social media and also provides photo albums and books if you want a physical keepsake. For larger events or weddings, cloud storage of final files has been noted by past clients—a convenient option if you need to download images later or share them with multiple people.
Tips for a Smooth Experience and Next Steps
To get the most from your coverage: prioritize a few “must-have” shots, let the photographer know the flow of the evening, and designate someone on your team to assist with crowd control for group photos. Blue Room Photography serves Mobile, Alabama; the Eastern Shore (Spanish Fort, Daphne, Fairhope, Pt. Clear); and the Gulf Beaches (Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Perdido Key). When ready, book early, share your timeline, and expect a friendly, professional process from planning through delivery.

BLUE ROOM PHOTOGRAPHY
Blue Room Photography is a studio idea built around the work of photojournalist Cindy McCrory. Cindy took a film photography course at the University of Alabama as part of her degree, learning darkroom techniques in the 1970s, long before digital photography existed. She went on to shoot for newspapers, TV stations, and magazines for years before opening her own studio in 2010. Today, Blue Room offers headshots, portraits, and special event photography, along with real estate and drone photography for commercial and residential properties.
